James is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Prior to joining the bar in 2010, James was a partner of a national law firm and assisted clients with all commercial and contentious aspects of the development of resources projects in Australia, the Asia Pacific and Africa.
 
At the bar he has advised clients on a wide range of domestic and international resources and construction disputes, including Warden’s Court matters.  This advice includes engagements with respect to international commercial arbitrations, maritime and salvage claims.
 
James also practices extensively in director’s duties, oppression proceedings, personal property securities, insolvency, reconstructions and schemes of arrangement.  This includes acting as counsel with respect to class actions.
 
James is the Deputy Chair of the Law Council of Australia insolvency and restructuring committee, and a member of the Law Council of Australia Construction & Infrastructure Law Committee, Law Society of Western Australia ethics committee, AMPLA, Insolvency Practitioners of Australia, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the International Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia, and the Society of Construction Law.
