Andrew Broadfoot was admitted to practice in Western Australia in 2000 and became a barrister in 2002. Since then he has practised in commercial and tax litigation and has obtained substantial experience conducting trials and appeals. Although based in Melbourne he is often retained by Western Australian practitioners.
He provides pleadings and opinions promptly. He is experienced in dealing with expert evidence and witnesses particularly in valuation, economic, accounting,scientific and engineering related fields.
Recent engagements include appearances in various petroleum resource rent tax and other tax related disputes; appearing for the successful defendant, the State of Victoria, in a class action concerning liability in negligence for pure economic loss; and an international commercial arbitration concerning a contract for the construction and operation of an offshore oil facility.
He is committed to excellence in both oral and written advocacy, having undertaken specialist training with the Australian Advocacy Institute in appellate advocacy;he has taught and assessed in the Victorian Bar Readers' Course; and he has acted as mentor for several readers joining the Victorian Bar.
