Christopher Shanahan SC
Chris has a broad practice focusing on commercial, administrative and civil matters with an emphasis on appeals. His practice traverses statutory construction, the exercise of statutory power and the availability of administrative remedies. It also includes equity and probate and Chris is a recommended Wills & Estates barrister (Doyle’s Guide). He has significant experience in mining, local government, native title, and the exercise of coercive investigative powers. In 2017 Chris led the establishment of Murray Chambers.
Chris was appointed silk on 1 December 2004. He has served as A/g Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commissioner of WA and as A/g Information Commissioner. He is currently a Senior Sessional Member of the State Administrative Tribunal. Chris was Vice-President of the WA Bar Association between 2005-2007. He was a member of the ABA’s Advocacy Training Council from 2007-17 and remains involved in advocacy training in Australia and overseas. Chris taught in the South-Eastern Circuit’s Advanced Advocacy Course at Keble College, Oxford in 2005 and 2010. In 2012 Chris coordinated the ABA’s first appellate advocacy course. Chris is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Curtin University.
