David Cox
David provides advisory opinions and court representation in the areas of commercial law and litigation with a particular focus on intangible asset management, intellectual property protection, commercialisation and enforcement and the operational aspects of the conduct of research.
His practice integrates knowledge gained from a prior career in the biomedical research industry with all facets of privacy, confidential information, patents, trademarks, copyright, design and plant breeders rights law.
In addition to his role advising and representing clients, David is a Commissioner and Chairman of the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia in which role he advises the Western Australian Government on matters concerning law reform and finally he is a Notary Public for the State of Western Australia.
Prior to joining the Bar, David was a solicitor and Partner of Jackson McDonald for over five years. Prior to working at Jackson McDonald, David worked for the National Firm, Clayton Utz. Through his work at Jackson McDonald and before that at Clayton Utz, David has been acknowledged for his expertise by his peers. This has included being listed in the 2017 Best Lawyers of Australia Survey for Health and Aged Care Law and being included in each of the Doyle’s Guide peer surveys of the Western Australian Intellectual Property and Media and Telecommunications Sectors. In the 2016 Doyle’s Guide survey of the Intellectual Property practitioners in Western Australia David was rated the highest level, Pre-eminent.
