Lisa Eaton

Lisa Eaton is a diversely experienced legal practitioner and mediator. She has built her professional practice across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on administrative law; litigation and dispute resolution (including alternative dispute resolution); and native title and land access. The breadth of her experience enables her to assist in guiding clients to the resolution of complex and multifaceted matters with a creative and pragmatic approach.

Admitted to practice in NSW, QLD and WA, Lisa has conducted commercial, corporate and civil litigation matters and trial work across those jurisdictions, as well as Federal Court and tribunal (AAT, SAT and NNTT) advocacy work. Lisa is also an accredited and widely experienced mediator specialising in complex, multi-party and cross-cultural mediations.

Lisa has a breadth of experience in private practice law firms, including Herbert Smith Freehills, where she worked as a senior practitioner in the Land Access Team acting for grantee and government parties in complex litigation matters and large scale negotiations, particularly surrounding mining, land acquisition and infrastructure projects, and the implementation of layered benefit management and trust structures with traditional owner groups. In the native title, mining and land access sector, Lisa has acted for the full spectrum of stakeholders including: government; mining and development companies; native title claimants; representative bodies; and RNTBC corporations.

Prior to commencing practice as an independent barrister, Lisa was a Senior Executive Service (SES) employee for the Australian Public Service (APS) working as Deputy Native Title Registrar for the National Native Title Tribunal.

Now bridging her passion for sports and the law, in March 2020 Lisa was appointed by Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck as an inaugural tribunal Member of the National Sports Tribunal.

Committed to sharing knowledge and helping to creating open learning dialogues, Lisa has offered training and seminars through LegalWise; the Federal Court of Australia and the NNTT; Australian Disputes Centre; Aurora; AIATSIS; and a variety of private training providers.

Beyond having acted for clients in ASIC and ORIC corporate governance and regulatory matters, Lisa is also personally an experienced director and has a passion for working with Not-For-Profit (NFP) and charitable boards and organisations that focus on innovative ways to address issues affecting our communities.
