Kirsten Nelson

Kirsten was admitted in NSW in 1993 and has appeared in courts and tribunals in New South Wales and Western Australia.

After completing undergraduate legal training in Sydney and serving as an Associate in the NSW District Court Kirsten joined the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the complex trial team. She moved to Perth in 1998 joining the WA DPP. After a period advising the Commissioner for Consumer Protection on regulatory and civil penalty proceedings she joined the Corruption and Crime Commission.

At the Commission Kirsten was Executive Director of Legal Services and responsible for providing legal advice and support to the corporate and operational areas of the investigatory agency in corruption and unexplained wealth investigations.

Kirsten acted as Counsel assisting the Commission, including during several high profile misconduct investigations of senior public officers and elected Members of Parliament. Kirsten was Counsel assisting the Perth Casino Royal Commission in 2021.

Kirsten has appeared as prosecuting counsel in state and commonwealth jury trials as well as pleas, sentencing and bail hearings for serious drug and sex offences, fraud, arson and serious assaults.

After leaving the WA ODPP Kirsten expanded her public law experience by appearing in regulatory and licencing prosecutions before various courts and at the State Administrative Tribunal. Kirsten has experience advising and prosecuting breaches of consumer protection laws, as well as some experience with family law matters.

Kirsten is a nationally accredited mediator.
