Delaney Quinlan

Delaney has a broad civil, criminal and public law practice developed during her 25 years of practising in public law. Delaney’s approach to advocacy is both effective and pragmatic.

Delaney has extensive appellate and trial counsel experience in the Magistrates Court, Supreme Court, State Administrative Tribunal as well as complicated Coronial Inquests.

Delaney worked at the State Solicitor’s Office for 15 years where she undertook a broad civil and criminal litigation practice with a particular focus on complicated OSH prosecutions, planning and high value/complex land compensation litigation.    During 2014 and 2015, Delaney acted as an Arbitrator in workers’ compensation disputes before being appointed as an ordinary member of the State Administrative Tribunal.

Delaney brings to her practice a unique perspective on advocacy and the decision-making process from her time as a Member of the SAT where she published over 70 decisions.  Delaney determined matters across all the streams of the SAT with a particular focus on planning, commercial & civil (building, retails shops, firearms and strata titles), vocational regulation as well as guardianship & administration.

Following her departure from the SAT in 2021, Delaney was the Director of Legal Services for the WA Police Force where she supervised a legal practice in both criminal and civil law with responsibility for 35 staff whilst expanding her experience in criminal matters, civil claims and employment law.
