In 1962, Francis Burt QC, retired from the firm of which he was a partner and commenced practice solely as a barrister. Sir Francis was later a Judge, and then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, before becoming Governor of Western Australia. He was shortly joined by Mr John Wickham (later the Hon Mr Justice Wickham), Mr Terry Walsh (later the Hon Mr Justice Walsh) and by Mr Gresley Clarkson in July 1963. These four formed the Western Australian Bar Association (WABA) in October 1963. The formation of the WABA was announced at the sittings of the Full Court in that month.
